  2. Just the opening sketch with that over-the-top impersonation of Angie Dickenson and all the violence going on in the background (nod to Police story and Police Woman) is hilarious. I and my friends in high school were right about SCTV back when so many dismissed it. In one of our senior year classes several of us responded with a Merv-like "Oooooo" to his referencing the MIRV-missile and the teacher acknowledged it with "I see there are some fans of SCTV here." That alone was vindication, as this teacher seemed pretty cool to us at the time.

  3. Merv Griffin meets Close Encounters and 2001 A Space Odyssey?!? Just goes to show you. NBC. Big network. Big bucks. Right? So SCTV had to be elevated in quality. Acting, writing, etc. And it shows. Keep watching. The Emmys are coming their way…

  4. That set has a lot going on. This was ahead of its time. God Bless SCTV for existing in the memory of Lorne Michaels' because it's raising the bar for SNL, even at the end of 2022.
In 2022, this actually looks like a to-do list for a producer. Or a set of instructions for someone to inherit the Current from Lorne and George Schlatter.

The networks own the studios. The studio is needed to make the show. The podcast isn't the new show. The streaming service isn't the new show. They make shows and they're new.
A show used to be able to work at the studio. The stage was where the show comes together.

The voice telling a story is the most important part of the story. This voice is the voice of the entire production. It's all the work reflecting artists whose vision comes from the show. Everyone imagines the show the same way on a good show before its finished…. everyone knows the reason and justification for every single decision. Everyone knows how the logic of the production works so they're all expecting the same from eachother and this is the most critical part of collaboration. Everyone must be trying to build the same thing. The thing being built is the world as dreamed in the human psyche but only after that psyche was visited by muse, and even then, perhaps not.

The show is a gift from muse, if you think about it.
