In the video 12 Days of Christmas (Archie Bunker) by Steve Van Zandt, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of strange Canadian family members who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was televised on second city television for the show’s most popular season when it aired by CBC Television in the 80’s. The character Bob McKenzie is performed by actor Rick Moranis and Doug is brought to life by the comedian Dave Thomas. The bit was made originally as an idea to both fulfill and laugh at stupid Canadian content legislation, the pair turned into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the US. The pair went on to become the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
