Bob and Doug McKenzie in 12 Days of Xmas 2021: La Haine
In the video 12 Days of Xmas 2021: La Haine, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of made up Canadian brothers who were featured in “Great White North”, a segment which was aired on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it got sent to CBC Television in the year 1980. Bob’s partThe character Bob is acted by comic Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is performed by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was brought to life originally as a joke to both follow guidelines and makes jokes about network Canadian content statutes, the siblings morphed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and the US. The pair later became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
It’s the 12 Days of Xmas! Twelve movies (or shows) that I think are interesting examples of their genres, have unique ideas, or are, in some other way, worth talking about.

I watched this in high school and never forgot it. Just thought about it the other day. All of your 12 days have been fabulous recommendations
I remember watching this in college in 2001 or so. Really great film.
I like the video though there are a few minor things:
It's pronounced, /ɛn/ (with an aspirated h at the beginning), not /eIn/
I think it's a bit callous to call the three, 'hoodlums' in the same breath as you talk about police violence – although you never explicitly call it police violence. Some of the police may be nice, but saying that over the police custody scene where they are beaten and tormented is lacking a little thought. You undermine the racism they experience and the extreme violence of the police by saying that "they say racist things too". This is worth-nothing, of course, but it requires nuisance or at least, paraphrasing Hubert's line, "La haine attire la haine" (Hatred breeds hatred) or paraphrasing his repeated monologue which culminates in, "mais l'important c'est pas la chute, c'est l'atterrissage" (the important thing isn't the fall, it's the landing)
The protagonist to La Haine is quite clearly Saïd – since it is with his eyes that film begins and ends with, and it is almost always through his perspective that we see the entire film, as he acts as an intermediary between the impulsive Vincent and Hubert, the voice of reason.
There exists an alternate live soundtrack by the Asian Dub Foundation. Well worth seeking out.
I want to find out more about the prions in my
My all time favourite film. So damn good
Is that Frenchie from the Boys TV show?
As a french person, i really am proud of our movies. And La Haine is a masterpiece i am attached to so i am glad to hear foreigners talk about it. French cinema is another world compared to Hollywood and i hope people get to discover it, discover us – not through the lenses of romanticized stories but brutally sincere tales.
One of those films shown in school, but oh so worth it.
Thanks 1990's bbc 2 moviedrome. We'll never see the like again.
Love la haine. Only watched it once but it really sticks with you. Great from start to finish.
Love the dream sequence near the beginning too.
one of my favourite films, sadly under-appreciated
Great movie. Saw it as a teenager in the late 2000s. Love it as much now as I did then
If one of those slates doesn't say blank mange im gonna be disappointed
Hiptang is a sub-division of Shintalo Inc. which is another name for Umbrella Corp really.
Regarding La Haine people say in the comments that they had to see it during their french class. As a french, the film wasn't required viewing in class but we went to see it in a movie theater and it was really a punch in the face. Especially when you're a kid, that film was memorable to say the least. It also was a remarkable turning point in the media, as it made obvious that at that point urban decay was real in France and it still is.
Is that a baby Vincent Cassel?! That alone makes it worth the watch, no?
Yep, this one I actually saw. And yes, its rly good.
Looks like tomorrow will be the original version of Cinderella.
But baby I don't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs….
All hail IKEA! Our saviour!
ah… what a blast from the past! i think i saw this in high school. anyway, the breakdance and dj scenes rly resonated with me in the sense that it felt… universal, or at least shared to an extent in regards to my neck of the woods at the time. also introduced me to Edith Piaf and MC Solaar. of the latter, his song le Nouveau Western felt like another sentiment my cohorts identified with — outsiders(outlanders?) having to travel within, constantly pushing against a sort of institutionalized siege mentality that wanted to own and direct you. heh need to go pour myself a drink. cheers.
Superb cinema – thanks for sharing!
What a great film
I watched the end of that and spoiled it for myself like an idiot
I remember there being a vast difference between the US subs and the UK version, half the stuff was missing from the US subs.
One of my favorite films of all time, without a doubt!
I can’t wait for Georg to talk about Lollipop Chainsaw tomorrow.
