In the video 1981 Pizza Hut commercial, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of made up Canadian comedians who were featured in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was introduced on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most popular season when it was featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in in the early 80s. Bob’s character is performed by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by actor Dave Thomas. The bit was created originally as a skit to both fulfill and mock stupid Canadian content laws, the brothers morphed into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The characters soon became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

I bet there’s people who think of Pizza Hut pizza that early in the morning. They just have trouble getting out of the house. All jokes aside, I do miss the actual hut restaurants. Pizza always tasted a little better there…or so it seemed.

When I started working there in 1992, all the fresh veggies came from local farm markets. When I left 4 years later, the onions and green peppers came prepackaged and covered in slime and juice. And STUNK!! Lol

Pizza places never tapped in to the breakfast market. If they can make a breakfast burrito, why not a breakfast pizza?

Feels weird, growing up in the 90s, and not the 80s, seeing them pull pan pizzas out of a pizza oven, versus the conveyor system they use.

They were really Blue Collar in the 80's! I know it started in Kansas, but the commercials that were made 5 years later ish were completely different!
