Thank you for uploading this wonderful gem.
This was during the period they on were NBC in the U.S and had to do a weekly 90 minute show. Total freedom to make mini movies.
back when life was real!!
It was so wholesome seeing so many famous faces acting so badly.
Love the picking out of the suit: something quiet and professional(?) Naww, go for the loudest, ugliest, gawd-awful-est, Don Cherry looking thing on the rack. Yep, THAT's a suit for a hockey player…
First time I’ve seen this show. I’m 42 and grew up watching Candy’s movies. One of the GOATS. Crazy how time flies.
5:50 John Candy is holding the Plasmatics LP under his arm. Unlike SNL, SCTV and their peeps KNEW important rock and roll. Unlike SNL, who had (and have) more musical guests that you never heard of before (and will never hear of again) than Lawrence Welk.
I always thought his last name was Havschnavalitchski.
Catherine O’hara has made me laugh for like 40 years.
The Tax Shelter company, lololol
Saturday nights in the 70's – 11:30 Saturday Night Live, 1:00 SCTV
hi
GO LEAFS GO! GO LEAFS GO! GO LEAFS GO!
Cocaine's a hell of a drug
Better than SNL
Always wondered what happened to Billly Stemhovilichski. Now we know, he changed his name to John Candy and took up acting. Never put two and two together. Could have been the hockey GOAT.
After nuclear armageddon there is hope that today’s idiotic popular culture will be forgotten while SCTV will rise as a Phoenix from the ashes. On the shoulders of
Billy Stemonenovichoboskili
I found out here that Guy had passed away. Even funnier as Count Floyd. Rest in Peace Pittsburgh's gift the world of comedy. I sure miss the Mackenzie Brothers.
Literally, every CBC drama program I saw growing up in the 60s and 70s…. except this is good. The headscratcher ending was perfect. Hilarious!! But, I would expect nothing less from SCTV.
They are so good, eh?
Genius
This is the Best mockumentary of 1970's Canadian films ever made. I can't believe it. Back then you knew it was Canadian
Great waste of time in the face of the network law at the time. Better than comedy.
Sports reporter is definitely inspired by Dick Beddoes.
What I learned from watching this classic comedy sketch is that Canada has always sucked, even before Justin Trudeau.
After the ecological activist, Catherine, reconciled her beliefs with the violence of organized sports, the relationship between her and Billy evolved. At the end of Billy's rookie season, specifically on the morning after Billy sealed the Stanley Cup Trophy for the Toronto Bay Leafs with a hat trick in Game 7 of the championship series against his childhood favorites, the Chicago Black Hawks, they eloped. He continued on to a Hall of Fame career, justifying Herb Kirk's faith in him. "The Chief" joined Billy in 3 NHL All-Star games, and together they led the Canadians to Olympic gold in 1998, when professionals were first allowed into the Games. Catherine and Billy raised 4 beautiful children, three whom followed their dad's "footsteps" into the hockey rink, including their lone daughter. Billy retained a fondness for his beloved Black Hawks, retiring to a Chicago suburb and becoming a loyal season ticket holder.
I love John Candy's Joo Fro !
the amelodic singing is sending me through the roof ☠
R.I.P. John Candy and Joe Flaherty…am I mistaken… is that Tie Domi at 8:36 ? it sure looks like him.
Rip. Joe flaherty
Good old Stupid Canadian TeleVision
Candy looks like an obese Richard Simmons here
wierd
omg is that Rick Moranis as the coach?
This sketch is hilarious on so many levels. The credits full of Canadian actors, the Dick Beddoes impression…I could go on and on!
The genius I always expect.
Dave Thomas playing his part as Shatner was pure gold.
