Bob and Doug McKenzie in 25 King of the Popes [025] [SCTV – Season 1]
In the video 25 King of the Popes [025] [SCTV – Season 1], Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of hysterical Canadian actors who were featured in “Great White North”, a improv which was streamed on second city television for the show’s most popular season when it moved to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in in the early 80s. Bob’s character is brought to life by actor Rick Moranis and the character Doug is created by comic Dave Thomas. It was developed originally as fluff to both fulfill and laugh at stupid Canadian content policies, the characters turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the United States. The brothers later became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

I met Richard Harris son Jamie at a film festival. He proposed marriage and spilled wine all over my blouse. I entertained the idea even if it were annulled the next day I could say I was Sir Richard Harris' daughter in law. Unfortunately all I got was a dry cleaning bill.
One of the greatest comedy shows of all time. Love it! Thanks so much for sharing!
Princess Carlotta is Edith Prickley before Edith Prickley?
SCTV: The greatest sketch comedy TV show ever! and they did it on a small budget
One of the greatest SCTV characters in this show was Edith Prickley played by Andrews Martin. Her sassy laugh complete with blowing a quick raspberry into a growling ‘HA!’ is such a recognizable trademark of her character. She crossed over that character in the ‘Princess Carlotta’ sketch. Andrea’s timing and complete immersion in such goofy, vibrant, loud characters makes me appreciate what comedy is all about. Been a fan of SCTV since my early teenage years (I’m 48 now).
Hilarious
"The Pope's comin' to town."
"You want me to off him?"
That's Harold Ramis' baby daughter Violet wearing the Tiny Tops.
SCTV was nutty!
What are ya? Some kinda faggot? LMAO!
The banality of Mister Rogers. LOL!
Oh those cocky Brits. LOL!
Are Princess Carlotta and Edith Prickley twin sisters?
Those baby wigs! Wow!
The syndicated half-hour show of the mid to late 70s, Second City Television, was much more consistent than the later 90-minute SCTV that aired nationally on NBC around 1980. While the latter was still mostly good, it seemed they struggled at times to create enough high-quality comedy to fill 90 minutes. Plus, it was riddled with A LOT of commercials. But both were vastly superior to SNL.
Make Canada great again! We use to have a culture & it was great!
Beauty Secrets with Andrea "Bondo" Mitchell
"King of the Popes".. LOLOLOL
The King of the Pope's is genius and the characters are spot on…..the Star Trek restaurant spoof was excellent also. I really wish that SCTV was as a well-known as SNL. Canada tytyty!!!
No doubt Floyd Robertson played a role in the cancellation of "The Uncle Earl Show," no?
Rev Hugh Betcha
Bob Hope makes an appearance…
I didnt know SCTV did the Star Trek Restaurant first!! SNL did one afterwards!
