In the video 71 Mel’s Rock Pile: Punk Music [145] [Seasons 4 & 5], Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of odd Canadian family members who are responsible for “Great White North”, a program which was included on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it braodcast by CBC Television in in the early 80s. Bob McKenzie is created by actor Rick Moranis and Doug is performed by actor Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously created originally as filler to both fulfill and laugh at legal Canadian content demands, the duo transformed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the USA. The McKenzie siblings soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

I love SCTV. Living in Toronto there are so many references to programming at the time. Mel’s Rock Pile had a dorky host, so did Boogie. That is only one.

I am SO PROUD to be a 62 year old Canadian who watched this brilliant show every week and still find it hilarious. HAVE NO IDEA how they came up with this inspired and spot on nuttiness. Blows SNL to smithereens.
