Bob and Doug McKenzie in A Man, Walking – Dave Thomas (Original Song)
In the video A Man, Walking – Dave Thomas (Original Song), Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of made up Canadian brothers who created “Great White North”, a improv which was introduced on second city television for the show’s most liked season when it aired by CBC Television in the 1980s. The character Bob McKenzie is brought to life by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug is created by Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was developed originally as a sketch to both fulfill and mock dumb Canadian content guidelines, the brothers transformed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and the States. The characters became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Hey guys, here’s an original song I wrote yesterday morning. It’s called A Man, Walking. The guitar and chorus melody came to me extremely quickly and then it was just a case of playing around with it a bit to get it ready. It’s only a demo version so not completely happy with everything. Hopefully in the future I’ll have the ability to record it nicely and can really make something out of it. Let me know what you think. Here are the lyrics:
Verse 1:
Solitary man, watch him as he goes
He ain’t got no place to roam
Silently he stands, out here in the cold
And he feels it in his bones
Verse 2:
Empty is his mind, peaceful as he goes
But his heart sits like a grave
Family watches on, worried bout their home
It’s just something he can’t change
Chorus:
Never you become my rainy day
Never you become my fears
Take a break from all the games we play
You have saved me through the years
Verse 3:
Hair is turning grey, body’s getting old
But his mind it still is strong
Years have took their toll, but he still remains
They won’t take it all away
Chorus:
Never you become my rainy day
Never you become my fears
Take a break from all the games we play
You have saved me through the years
Chorus 2:
And just maybe we could save this place
We could live off all the tears
If somehow we could just change our ways
She would live for many years
Verse 4:
Solitary man, standing in his home
He don’t recognise these roads
Silently he weeps, where did it all go wrong
He don’t live here anymore
