Once upon a time there was the inexplicably popular and long-running Solid Gold, which involved the remarkably cheezy Solid Gold Dancers who were, somehow, taken as serious artists by America At Large for a little bit there. It was the 70s/early 80s, Took a bit for us to catch on.
SCTV had Andrea Martin pretend to be Marcy Odett (one of the dancers) for a sketch on their first NBC Christmas episode in 1981. The dance was choreographed by the remarkably club-footed Juul Haalmeyer (The bigger dancer with the mustache here), who’s actual, real, honest-to-God job on the show was the costume manager.
He was also the leader of the uniquely untalented Juul Haalmeyer Dancers, which just had to be seen to be believed. Wow.
Anyway: This is all owned by Shout Factory and Second City and I dunno who all else. I just thought this might be a cure for the Christmas blues. Sorry for the low picture quality.
