He has to play parts of those classic songs. Please get him back!
Great great great! Rick, you have the talent of capturing the real essence.
I recall first seeing the Police on Don Kirschner's rock concert. Not live, but the red room Roxanne video. I has no idea what it was because nothing else sounded like that, but I knew right away it was awesome.
I grew up listening to the Police. My dad was a huge fan. Its funny that after they didn't make albums anymore I always was under the impression that they hated each other. After 40 years, I'm just now finding after these interviews that's they are very gracious about one another, makes me feel really good about the whole Police nostalgia. I'd be happy meeting Rick and picking his brain let alone Andy, Sting and Stewart, lol
glad to watch all members of the police talk to you now and glad they let you play tracks so assume you're not demonetized great interviews
81 years old, Sprits in the material world for certain. Stewart and Sting also seem to be defying ageing. what's up boys?
That moment in "Bring On the Night" when the guitar starts is absolute musical heaven.
The bass is too loud. Perfect.
I would love to see you interview Neil Finn to talk about his song writing. Keep up the great work Rick
Listening to Andy Summers taught me so much about writing for the guitar. He took us into uncharted territory, but not with anything radical, like he was showing us something that was right in front of us that we hadn't even noticed.
Interesting facework.
My gosh. This was beautiful!
Andy Summers is actually a pretty funny guy. Great interview.
Another GEM Rick!! Thank you!
I wish someone would get him to talk about his vocal solo album “xyz”. I love that album. Such a great alternative pop album
Great interview, wonderful stories.
So many non-punk chords in Roxanne, major 7ths, minor 7ths, 7th sus 4s, just slipped the voicings in under the radar there
That was amazing. I didn’t realise that Andy was just an interesting and charismatic person. No mention that you both have daughters called Layla?!
Rick, when you play the songs on the phone for the guest, are you just hearing the phone or are you pumping it through some amp and speakers? i figure just the phone would not hit them the same way…
What a legend.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME RICK, The Police are my favorite band, this was magic, Thankyou
Synchronicity tour 83 was the first concert I ever went to, I was 20 years old.
i have a pristine copy of "ghost in the machine" it is Nautilus super disc pressing and it is as quiet as a rat pissing on cotton.
Andy looks amazing at 81 years old! and he is sharp and full of energy.
I love how complimentary he is of his Police bandmates.
And when will we get your Joni interview?! :^) In her back yard in Bel Air. (If Sir Elton can get in there, surely you can too.)
VOCAL HARMONY! Hello Rick. What about a series on the greatest vocal harmony artists: CSN ("Helplessly Hoping", "See The Changes"), Joni Mitchell (highlighting how she often does her own background vocals), Simon & Garfunkel (how can just 2 guys sound SO perfect!?), Eagles (what exactly IS their "famous 5-part harmony" as Frey used to put it), Kansas, Supertramp, etc… breaking down what is going on with each one's style and what makes it unique and powerful and beautiful.
Fantastic interview thank you both. Andy looking and sounding great.
This was an excellent interview, and I really enjoyed listening to Andy. I think their songs are about to get a boost in the number of plays!
These interviews are some of the best stuff on YouTube music-wise. What a treat to get each member of the Police to tell their story. When I was a teen in the 80s they were huge, and I regret never seeing them live in concert. Still have their record albums from those days.
A bonafide legend.
Jimmy Page next ? now that he lives in New York.
The Police: The Greatest Rock Band of All Time.
@ minute 56:00 is exactly when Rick Should Have Asked, "How did you combine the two parts when you played it live?"
A real interviewer Listens to the answers and Follows Up on an interesting line of thought before moving on.
AARG!
Wow that was a great interview, I enjoyed every minute of it. good Stuff
Rick, you are the BEST at interviewing LEGENDS. Thank you so much for bringing this content that will live forever! MORE MORE MORE!!!!
52:36 "I'll play the Dm11 Walking On The Moon chord for you, for five thousand dollars…"
Right out of the gate (I'm only 5 min into this) Andy Summers is incredibly articulate in his ability to describe what it felt like to learn how to play the guitar.
49:00 the miraculous moment, when it all started, when we're gonna make it, we're gonna do this
ANDY SUMMERS WOO HOO
A great, fascinating, and yet such a casual, matter-of-fact interview. This has already been said, but you know how to bring the best out of people.
Compare Andy with Biden (same age). Andy speaks with the same speed and clarity as when he was in his 30s, mostly. Unbelievable.
