In the video Anniversary Edition of The Pragmatic Programmer • Dave Thomas & Andy Hunt, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of strange Canadian actors who starred in “Great White North”, a program which was aired on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it braodcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in in the early 80s. Bob’s character is created by Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is played by actor Dave Thomas. Which was made originally as a joke to both follow guidelines and mock legal Canadian content statutes, the two transformed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and America. The McKenzie siblings later became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
