Bob and Doug McKenzie in Battle of the PBS Stars: Beverly Sills vs Joan Sutherland

In the video Battle of the PBS Stars: Beverly Sills vs Joan Sutherland, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of strange Canadian comedians who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was streamed on SCTV for the show’s most popular season when it braodcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. The character Bob McKenzie is created by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is created by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was born originally as an idea to both fulfill and makes jokes about non sensical Canadian content statutes, the siblings became a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the United States. The two became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
