  1. The whole point of “Bob & Doug” was because the CRTC wanted Canadian content. So SCTC writers were thinking “what do Canadians do ? “ and Bob & Doug were born.

  2. Bob and Doug were kind of like our Wayne and Garth, just much earlier. They also had a movie called Strange Brew.
Many of the actors from this comedy troupe went on to long careers in movies.

  3. It's true Canadian beer has higher alcohol content than American beer. Where I grew up we called American beer "bear piss" as an expression of disgust for it. I bet someone mentioned it, but Doug and Bob star in a film called Strange Brew, which is essentially Hamlet if it took place at a beer factory instead of the Danish court. Max Von Sydow, the famous Shakespearean actor, agreed to co-star in the film because his son is a huge SCTV fan.

  4. You have to watch some SCTV, which is where Bob & Doug started. You'll be shocked to recognize nearly all of the cast. Also, Bob & Doug had a feature film released in 1983 called Strange Brew that you should check out as well. It's actually their version of Hamlet, if you can believe it, lol.

  5. Hi Tash. There is no way "bob and doug" would have aligned their fame with just one beer unless they were being well paid. I do not recall these MOLSON adverts even being shown in western Canada.
I think the date shown on one ad you have offered us said it was from 1997, about a dozen years after SCTV ceased making new episodes. Very recently, bob and doug were drafted to make radio ads to convince the federal Govt. to reduce a proposed 6% tax increase on alcoholic beverages.
They earned their fee, as the increase in the tax was reduced to 2%!

  6. Molson Golden eh? I don't think they still make that. Or Ice. Just Canadian and Export now that they are Molson Coors, mostly American owned.
The other major brew in Canada was Labatt – although they are now Anheuser-Busch InBev. The only real Canadian beers these days are from much smaller operations.
    Cheers!
