Rick Moranis played Helmet in Mel Brooks comedy movie "Space Balls" spoofing Star Wars. It also has from same TV show John Candy. Another movie with Rick is "Streets of Fire " that also had Willem Dafoe and Bill Paxton ,though it is not a comedy. The soundtrack is very good .
They are just too great!
Hey Aussie Tash, You love them Eh'.. I'm fellow Canadian' like them.. i member when it as re-runs.. You may or May Not know this… 2 words for You… "Strange Brew" They made a Movie..
You gotta watch the movie
Dont forget the movie Strange Brew!
YAY! These are soo funny!
Re-read the scrolling credits on that second episode.
The reason they're there: SCTV was always 100% Canadian (originally shot in Edmonton, later Toronto), for broadcast on a private network. Then the CBC decided to carry it, but they have 2 fewer minutes of commercial time – so they needed to come up with 2 minutes of additional content per previously-shot episode. The CBC INSISTED, due to "Can-Con" rules (Canadian Content) that those 2 minutes be 100% Canadian – which was abjectly ridiculous.
Therefore they came up with The Great White North (aka Kanadian Korner) as a flip-the-bird to the CBC. It was meant to be superfluous filler, but it wound up being SO DAMNED GOOD that it became the star of the entire show, and even spawned a motion picture ("Strange Brew").
You GOTTA do a reaction to their movie, "Strange Brew" 🙂 (And, also, their Christmas song, "The Twelve Days Of Christmas", featuring Geddy Lee from Canadian band Rush)
Hilarious! Suggest you check out top clips from the Red Green show. Duck tape becomes an iconic Canadian fix-it-all. Honestly, loved Red Green, still do to this day.
They drank so much beer filming those Bob And Doug sketches. It just adds to the allure that they were buzzed and improvising during most of it.
Don't know if it has been recommended to you but Trailer Park Boys was a very popular comedy, worth checking out.
Have you heard of Rick Moranis, he played Darth helmet in Spaceballs
You should give Red Green a try too, if you like this comedy…also, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Rick Mercer Talking To Americans…
it's been quite a few years since i watched SCTV – 4? of them were involved in the movies ghost busters. i think dan akroyd wrote it

Take off, you hoser. Welcome to Canada in the 80s. The whole program was very funny, SCTV, Toronto. You will recognize most of the comedians.
they have a movie called strange brew ,that would make a great reaction video.
Check out Up here in Canada by Clark W!I. Video!
You know Bob (Rick Moranis) Darth Helmet in Spaceballs, the I shrank the kids series and Ghostbusters. This show also launch the American career of John Candy.
Hey Tash, the back story to Bob and Doug is the Canadian comedy show SCTV similar to Saturday Night Live and to make the required Canadian content at the percentage . The percentage was based on a combination of actors, content, location, country of origin ie. Canada vs. Us) So Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas ( both Canadian actors) jokingly ad libbed the first skit thus making Canadian history when it was so funny.
A bad parody of a local cable program very common back in the day. Other parodies of Talk shows, musical variety & other amateur content made up a pretty good TV show called SCTV.
Hi Tash. An earlier post by Brent mentioned that this legendary sketch was born of a government requirement for a minimum of "Canadian Content". Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis supplied it with the most over the top and cliche'd characters they could conjure, and became legends for doing so. It even caused FRICTION among the cast due to the duo being named "the funniest part of S.C.T.V. by rolling Stone magazine. Rush recorded a song about the duo, and a film was produced called "Strange Brew|". I LOVE sctv and consider it the shining star of Canadian television comedy, but Bob and Doug always seemed a bit too easy. I can see why they became so popular with Americans. You really need to immerse yourself in as much of the first 4 seasons as you can find. It's astonishing how after more than 4 decades, the writing remains fresh and relevant.
In 1995 I was working on a political campaign. We had a message board where we shared info, and had some friendly competition with our team in other ridings – most signs, doors knocked, etc. I boasted on the message board that we were leading, and "to choke on our dust you hosers!"
My candidate, who was unfamiliar with the McKenzie brothers, was concerned that I had insulted every party member in the province outside of our riding. I had to assure him that while technically it was an insult, no one would take it seriously.
This was a bit on a Canadian show poking fun at Canadian stereotypes and Government regulations concerning Canadian content rules. It even spawned a motion picture called Strange Brew.
Some other Canadian comedy shows to check out would be "Corner Gas" and the "Red Green Show." The Red Green Show episode "Pardi Gras" even had my brother on it as an off-camera tuba player.
Thank you so much for this, Tash. SCTV including Bob and Doug was integral to my becoming an actor. Thank you for sharing this!
