Watch the clip “Bob & Doug McKenzie – Take Off” among alot of other similar video clips featuring the loved hilarious characters of Bob and Doug McKenzie.

more info

The brothers Bob & Doug McKenzie are actually actors Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, who created the characters for their Great White North sketch on the Canadian comedy show Second City Television. In 1981, the characters released their own comedy album, which spawned this hit single. While not actually a song, but more of spoken dialogue sandwiched in between a chorus sung by Geddy Lee, it works beautifully; this was one of my favorites of 1981, and I particularly like the way their sketch’s “Coo loo coo coo, coo coo coo coo” theme was incorporated into the track. Take Off peaked at #16 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1982.

  1. I tried to explain to my grandchildren that this was once "a thing" which was really popular in both Canada and the United States and they didn't believe me. Maybe they should have watched "Brother Bear" first.

  2. I've just noticed something strange happens at 1:20. I can't put my finger on it but listening to the drums behind the guitar solo it almost sounds like they're out of time or the multitrack is not in-sync

  3. Great Canadian iconic culture …… we get it , most don't ….. this is as iconic as Hockey Night in Canada , NHL Showdown , SCTV , The Friendly Giant , Tiny Talent Time , The Hilarious House of Frankenstein , The Littlest Hobo , Beachcombers , North of 60 , Electric Circus , Much Music , Chum , Q107 and Canadian Tire …… and a lot of others ….. this is how old I am …… will be 60 in December ….. and the night/dance clubs in Toronto I can name too ……

  4. As an adult,, I find this way too corny….This came out exactly the same time that "Jam Boxes" were becoming THEE thing. A sunny summer in a small Pennsylvania town, somewhere……..in the Twilight Zone.
