Bob and Doug McKenzie in CBC on SCTV: Hinterland Woodchuck/ Monday Night Curling – 1983
In the video CBC on SCTV: Hinterland Woodchuck/ Monday Night Curling – 1983, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of made up Canadian actors who created “Great White North”, a skit which was featured on SCTV for the show’s 3rd season when it was aired on CBC Television in the 80’s. Bob McKenzie is performed by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is played by actor Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously born originally as fluff to both satisfy and make fun of dumb Canadian content laws, the characters morphed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and America. The pair later became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Early ’80s CBC only more so(!) in this SCTV spoof featuring Hinterland Who’s Who Woody, Howie McMeeker, Barbara Frump’s failed interview with Col. Ghaddafi, and Canada Fact Ministry claims that Canada invented Thanksgiving and initially stood alone in the Pacific War. Oh, Canada!

Thank you Canada, for standing all alone against the Empire of Japan for 24 hours.

Every Saturday early mornings we used to go out to various farmer's properties and plunk groundhogs for a $25 bounty per ground hog. Standing rules were no shots were taken under 250 yards and only one shot per shooter per groundhog. It was easy money!!!! Fun too!!!!!!
I have never seen this before. Fabulous!
I like how two of the curling announcers are named Gord…
1:34 Mocking ABC Sports’ closing spiel of the time (“This has been a presentation of ABC Sports: Recognized around the world as the leader in sports television”)
Loved Hinterland Who's Who as a kid !! And SCTV was way funnier then SNL !!
We invented Thanksgiving!!! Lol
CBC today would only show a female woodchuck of colour.
You a) have to be of a certain age and b) from a certain place up north to fully get just how brilliant this is..SCTV was, is and will forever be THE high water mark in TV comedy…way better than those 'cheap punks' at SNL…#LaRue4Ever
I've been called some things in my day, but only once an affable snow creature.
this was a funny skit
I love the part where the SCTV announcer intros The Journal from the CBC on SCTV storyline. Does anyone know who this announcer is?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Never noticed until now they Park in front of a Fire Hydrant!
This is like barely a parody.
This was SCTV's best storyline in its Network 90 era: the spoof of NBC's picking up CFL games during the NFL strike in 1982.
It's a fact!
Flaherty spoofing Dick Beddoes is awesome.
SCTV so under appreciated. What a great show. In that period they were way funnier than Saturday Night Live and with a much smaller budget. Awful glad to find so many of these clips on YT.
This was the good ol days, 40 years ago, when the CBC was just a boring network and not the boring screeching social justice network they are now.
Love the CBC control truck
“…Bramalea will take the game!!!”
Did you know? Canadian football has four downs, not three. Canadians always punt on the third down, just to be safe.
Curling is not a joke.
Once again another creative way to beat a deadline by recycling old crap with a new premise.
I didn't think suit jackets could be THAT orange!
I actually like that woodchuck clip.
During the strike, Why didn't SCTV run programming from CCCP 1 or even CCCP 2 ???
Can Facts? In the 70s it would be more likely they'd have called it… Facts Canada.
When you don't overact, like today's comedy, it is just that much better.
