In the video CHRISTMAS SONG (CHESTNUTS).mp4, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of strange Canadian brothers who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was included on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it streamed by CBC Television in in the early 80s. Bob is performed by Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is brought to life by comic Dave Thomas. The sketch was born originally as filler to both satisfy and laugh about annoying Canadian content laws, the brothers morphed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and across the border. The characters later became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Anyone, who is somewhat musical, knows, how tricky it is, to sing with free improvisations like Doug McKenzie. (You don’t know, when to start and when to stop without destroying too many of his wonderful inventions, not to speak of the constantly changing rhythm and tempo. -) But they are also an enticing musical challenge …
