Bob and Doug McKenzie in CHUM 1050 Toronto – Rick Moranis – 1978
In the video CHUM 1050 Toronto – Rick Moranis – 1978, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of fictional Canadian siblings who hosted “Great White North”, a improv which was streamed on SCTV for the show’s 3rd season when it braodcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. Bob’s part is played by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug is brought to life by comic Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously born originally as a sketch to both fulfill and make fun of dumb Canadian content laws, the characters turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the United States. The brothers later became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
CHUM 1050 Toronto – Rick Moranis – 1978. Yes, That Rick Moranis! Before SCTV, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, The Flintstones & Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Rick was a Rock & Roll DJ in Toronto at 1050 CHUM. He who used the name Rick Alan on air. Rick also spent time on air at CFTR & CKFH. At the time of this 1978 aircheck, he was also doing stand up comedy. By 1980, he jined Second City, and the rest is history!

After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
You’ll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we’d love to share it here!
We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook:

1978 was a great year for rocknroll. And chum played all the hits.so i disagree with the comment made of how bad chum was, and jeanie becker, she was hott
Lucky
CHUM an unusual call sign for a radio station, but Unique.
There was an aircheck of Moranis on CFTR that was floating around the internet a few years back. He sounded better on that one. This aircheck sounded like a copy of the horrible Bob Pitman format heard at WNBC in NYC at the time. Back selling the songs, doing the weather and not talking over the song’s intro, and no jingles or production. Thankfully CHUM went back to sounding good again around 1984…
Have to agree with a few other commenters, didn't really project much of a personality on CHUM, what a stark contrast to delivering his act compared to to the SCTV bit:
Gerry Todd (video jock) https://youtu.be/VD80QHZputQ?t=66
The Real life "Gerry Todd" show
There's a hint of Rick's comedic talents on this aircheck: he's "channeling" (semi-intended pun) Ed Sullivan @ 2:02.

Chum had chilled out by that year love it in the early 70's. I always wanted to work at CHUM great station.
He certainly didn't project any personality on radio, but he was only 25 at the time. However, he did find his niche!
