In the video Crazy Legs Fires Caballero, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of imaginaryfunny Canadian brothers who were featured in “Great White North”, a sketch which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s third season when it streamed by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in 1980. Bob is created by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is played by Dave Thomas. It was brought to life originally as a skit to both follow guidelines and make fun of silly Canadian content laws, the characters transformed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the US. The pair became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Harold Ramis (original SCTV member/writer before leaving for movie success) returned to the show just once in November of 1982 to inhabit this rubbery one-off character, Allan “Crazy Legs” Herschmann.
Shamelessly aping Python, Ramis still somehow manages to make it his own. A fun little overlooked SCTV moment.
