In the video Creating an Elixir GenServer based on Dave Thomas’ Programming Elixir 1.6, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of fictional Canadian family members who starred in “Great White North”, a program which was introduced on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it aired by CBC Television in 1980. Bob’s character is played by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is brought to life by Dave Thomas. Although developed originally as a sketch to both satisfy and make fun of stupid Canadian content policies, the brothers turned into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the US. The McKenzie brothers became the focus of a famous comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
