Bob and Doug McKenzie in Dave Roberts – Dave Thomas – Dave Boreanaz
In the video Dave Roberts – Dave Thomas – Dave Boreanaz, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of imaginaryfunny Canadian siblings who created “Great White North”, a show which was broadcast on SCTV for the show’s most popular season when it was broadcast on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob is created by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by comic Dave Thomas. Although brought to life originally as an idea to both satisfy and makes jokes about annoying Canadian content legislation, the duo morphed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the USA. The brothers became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
This is a piece John Kosich of WKBW did with his friend and mentor, longtime WPVI Weatherman Dave Roberts on Dave’s 2001 induction into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Before coming to Philadelphia Dave was known as Dave Thomas during his days in Buffalo where he hosted among other things “Rocketship 7.”

I was a child born in 1955. When I was old enough to watch telly Rocketship 7 was my a huge part of my life! Thank you!
oh…wait
Rocketship 7 began in 1962 my very first day of kindergarten–and ended about a year after I started university-amazing. It ended after Mr. Thomas left WKBW for WPVI in Philadelphia-and also because ABC demanded that all their affiliates show Good Morning America for a full 2 hours (which was the time slot Rocketship 7 used to run at)
Thanks Dave

Wow man i grew up with thi show my sisters loved dave to he reminded us of our uncle pat clary also a great and decent human being
Loved watching his forcasts from Cherry Hill, NJ and now watch his son's Seal TV show
As a kid in Toronto, I loved Dave Thomas on Rocketship 7 because he was never condescending to us kids the way some other kid show hosts seemed to be , he spoke like an adult.
Rocket Ship 7! Thanks, Dave!
he defined philly weather too. a nearly impossible job under the circumstances. you get the feeling that "dave roberts" could have been anything he wanted. but tv chose him.
I liked watching Rocket Ship 7 that where I known him from.
Yes, not just western New York. I watched him every day at home in Toronto. He was great.
brings back so many happy memories as a child growing up here Toronto. Kids today will never know shows like this that we truly appreciated back when we were kids, those days truly rocked.
@slipdisc11 when I was growing up outside of Toronto there was only the CBC and the Friendly Giant on air in our part of Canada. Thank god we could tune into WKBW and watch Dave Thomas and the crew at Rocketship 7, eh?
As Dave Thomas he rocked the weekday morning airwaves on WKBW. Then it suddenly vanished. Only this past year or so did I learn that he lived on at WPVI where I couldn't even find a video clip of "Dave Roberts". In his seventies now, I believe, he's earned his retirement. Love you, Dave!
WOW his son really looked so much a like when he was his son's age.
I too use to watch him in the early sixties in the morning before school while eating my cereal…lol…where's Promo and Mr. Beeper…Mighty Mouse help….lol
There is a site to see many old pics of Dave at WKBW Buffalo. its rocketship7 d o t c o m
i grew up on rocketship 7 he seems like a good guy
Dave announced his retirement last week. He has been great as I first enjoyed him growing up in Buffalo and then here in the Philly market.
The 6 o'clock news here in Philly will never be the same. Happy Retirement to you and your family. You've earned a long, happy one. We're just sad to see you go for our sake!
Thanks Dave! I loved Rocketship 7 and Commander Tom and Uncle Bobby
Dave won the gene pool lottery. The guy is over 70 and still has all his hair and still looks presentable for TV. Some people 20 years younger than him look to be his age.
