Bob McKenzie is played by Rick Moranis and the character Doug is acted by the comedian Dave Thomas. The bit was created originally as filler to both satisfy and makes jokes about silly Canadian content legislation, the two became a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The two enetually would become the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
