Bob’s character is brought to life by comic Rick Moranis and Doug is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. The sketch was created originally as an idea to both satisfy and laugh at dumb Canadian content laws, the brothers turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the USA. The two became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
