In the video Dave Thomas: The Master Storyteller, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of imaginaryfunny Canadian comedians who were featured in “Great White North”, a program which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most popular season when it was aired on CBC Television in the 1980s. Bob is acted by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is brought to life by Dave Thomas. It was made originally as a joke to both fulfill and laugh at annoying Canadian content policies, the pair grew up to be a pop culture hit in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie brothers soon became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Dave Thomas is the author of atleast 17 books on his beloved Burnley FC , including an autobiography with Paul Fletcher who was a previous guest on this podcast. He has also written for Up the Clarets, and Something to Write Home About magazine.
Thomas is a master storyteller and he is part-historian, part-die-hard fan, part author. He regals tells tales of watching Burnley in the 50’s, meeting Burnley fans in Tasmania and the bond that is formed from mutual love for the same club, Burnley away trips, the future of fanzine culture in the UK and how he went from school headmaster to one of the biggest Burnley football writers there ever has been or will be.
