Two years after a drunk-driving crash killed the Felipek family, defendant Amber Perera learned her fate.
Hillsborough Judge Christopher Sabella took the bench as a packed courtroom hung on his every word. He reminded Perera of a jailhouse comment she made about her life being ruined. “Yes ma’am, your life is ruined. But you also ruined a lot of lives and ended three lives.”

That's good with harsh sentencing I hope people will think before driving drunk. Florida doesn't play a lady killed 5 people in California only got 30 years.
USAs legal system is too harsh (you are like children when it comes to those big numbers, 99 years, 7 life sentences etc..as if 25 or 30 year sentences aren't the exact same level of deterrent) and here in Europe we tend to be too soft. I say harsh because she is taking up space in prison for 50 years when there are plenty of intentional murderers out there to take that space, while she could be in (some other..) rehabilitation where she could continue to think about what she did. If any country gets it right it probably is a European one, though not mine (Britain), people often get away very lightly..
