In the video Great Canadian Gold Rush of 2010, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of strange Canadian siblings who are responsible for “Great White North”, a segment which was broadcast on second city television for the show’s most liked season when it got sent to CBC Television in 1980. Bob’s part is brought to life by Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is performed by actor Dave Thomas. The bit was developed originally as a skit to both satisfy and mock silly Canadian content statutes, the duo grew up to be a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the USA. The brothers became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Kelowna B.C.s Bankhead Elementary music teacher John Vesterinen and the schools Bulldog Choir and Orff-Ans musicians perform a tribute song to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Performed on guitar and xylophones, the song is loosely based on the Bob and Doug McKenzie 1980s hit Great White North.
