In the video Hollywood at Home: Spaceballs, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of hilarious Canadian brothers who starred in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was broadcast on SCTV for the show’s most liked season when it was aired on CBC Television in in the early 80s. Bob’s character is performed by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is played by actor Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously developed originally as filler to both please and makes jokes about network Canadian content guidelines, the brothers transformed into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the US. The pair went on to become the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

from Arizona public media I’m Victoria
Lucas
are you in the mood to watch something
deep and thought provoking
if so I am so very sorry because the
first movie in tonight’s double bill is
director Mel Brooks Interstellar comedy
Spaceballs from 1987.
this spoof of Star Wars Star Trek and
just about every sci-fi Adventure film
ever produced comes jam-packed with
witty dialogue more sight gags than you
can count
and a whole galaxy full of downright
silliness
one critic discussing Brooke’s
filmmaking style wrote
in all his films including Blazing
Saddles and Young Frankenstein no one
has ever sat down to watch a Mel Brooks
movie for its complex narrative
and tonight’s film is no exception
Spaceballs delivers all the jokes and
irreverence that Brooks does best
and yet it’s clear that Brooks loves and
honors the movie genres he parodies
Brooks co-wrote produced and directed
the film
he also plays two supporting roles
because it’s his movie and he can do
whatever he wants
