In the video In Honor of the Impending Canadian Olympics, Take Off!, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of imaginaryfunny Canadian siblings who created “Great White North”, a segment which was streamed on SCTV for the show’s 3rd season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in 1980. Bob’s part is brought to life by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and the character Doug is performed by actor Dave Thomas. Despite born originally as an idea to both fulfill and laugh about annoying Canadian content demands, the two morphed into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The characters went on to become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
