In the video INTERVIEW: Everton Former Players’ Foundation interview former Toffees winger Dave Thomas, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of odd Canadian comedians who are responsible for “Great White North”, a show which was shown on SCTV for the show’s third season when it got sold to CBC Television in in the early 80s. Bob’s character is brought to life by actor Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is played by comic Dave Thomas. The sketch was developed originally as an idea to both satisfy and make fun of network Canadian content legislation, the brothers grew up to be a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie brothers later became the focus of a famous comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
