In the video Interview – Rick Moranis, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of hilarious Canadian actors who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most popular season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 80’s. Bob is played by Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is performed by Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously brought to life originally as fluff to both fulfill and laugh about non sensical Canadian content laws, the characters became a pop culture hit in both Canada and the USA. The McKenzie siblings soon became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Iconic Canadian performer Rick Moranis (SCTV, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, Parenthood, Strange Brew, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Little Shop Of Horrors) retired from acting in the mid-1990’s to care for his children after the death of his wife.
In June of 2013 he released an album of music and only did a few interviews to promote it. I was fortunate to have the chance to speak with him and we discussed his music career; whether he actually did retire; what it was like working with Dave Thomas on SCTV and as Bob and Doug McKenzie; and much, much more.
At the end of our chat, he was even kind enough to record a promo for me, one which I’ll keep forever. That was done off the air, but I’ve included it at the end of this clip.
It’s a beauty interview, eh?!

Rick and Dave stopped by the Steve & Garry radio show in Chicago at least a couple times during the Strange Brew promotion and the recordings are a must have. Excellent stuff.
