In the video Island Ruby, or How To Survive Invasions, Immigrants, and Cultural Attacks / Dave Thomas, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of fictional Canadian family members who can been seen in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most liked season when it braodcast by CBC Television in the eighties. Bob’s partThe character Bob is performed by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug is brought to life by actor Dave Thomas. The bit was born originally as an idea to both follow guidelines and laugh about non sensical Canadian content legislation, the two transformed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and America. The two soon became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
