more info

‘Isn’t It a Pity’ (Gershwin) – Michelle Benjamin with Doug McKenzie. One of several songs recorded at an afternoon session yesterday.

This, as were all the others, new songs to both of us – first take – no rehearsal. The bass and drums backing was derived from ‘Real Tracks’ from PG music (a ‘Band in a Box’ add-on). Chords were just typed in and an instant bass and drums backing. The piano was improvised from a chord/melody lead-sheet – the leadsheet (different key) is in Sher Music’s ‘The Standards Real Book’ p 243.

The transcription of the accompaniment is on my DVD, along with the midi file that was recorded as the video was recorded – go to my website for details – . The transcription is also available for separate purchase at $1.20 – details on my website.

  1. Absolutely, absolutely wonderful.

Now that Michelle has earphones in and she can hear well what's she singing, her full potential is coming out, and the whole thing becomes a top performance. Really nice piano playing. Loved the other song too.
