In the video Joe Flaherty On Why An SCTV Reunion Never Happened | Letterman, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of strange Canadian actors who can been seen in “Great White North”, a show which was televised on SCTV for the show’s most popular season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 1980s. Bob’s part is created by Rick Moranis and Doug is played by comic Dave Thomas. Despite born originally as fluff to both fulfill and laugh about legal Canadian content policies, the two transformed into a pop culture success in both Canada and the States. The McKenzie siblings became the focus of a famous comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Ah man I remember watching SCTV growing up in Chicago when SNL was in the early 80s tanking period. Having no idea it was of Canadian origin – just knowing how hilarious the characters, skits, etc were. Guy Caballero, Edith Prickley, Earl Cannonbere, Doug and Bob and on and on… What a cast! Shout out to Kids in the Hall too – another Canadian classic!
