I have no clue what I just watched but it was epic and I think John Madden's popcorn totally posed off it.
Funniiiest ever!
Just too funny, it made me laugh so hard. Bilingual!
Hey Leafs fans, I'm older than dirt and you've never raised the cup in my lifetime. Maybe next year eh boys?
The Pepsi cola shot was "Pepsi is 2nd best" (sales wise)
Brilliance at work. It was only to make you laugh.
Not enough of that these days.
Haha … omg I miss this. This is Canadian Entertainment just like Strange Brew.
I met Joe Flaherty on an airline flight years ago. He's a super nice guy!
Love It!
even back then people hated bilingualism
This is gold. Pure, unadulteraed, gold.
I loved this show so much growing up. It was my favourite show. I remember coming home late one evening with my parents (I was almost 12), and I turned on the tv. SCTV just happened to be playing, and I remember the very first skit I ever saw. A man (Joe Flaherty) is telling his young son a couple of scary bedtime stories, and the second one is so frightening that the boy dies of shock. (That doesn't sound funny at all, but it was!!) Joe's casual observation of what he had done cracked me up. I was laughing hysterically and looked up the name of the show in the TV guide. I was hooked ever since. I loved all of the cast, including early cast member Harold Ramis, and later cast member Martin Short. I was happy that all of them went onto very successful careers…except for poor Joe Flaherty. He won my heart in that scene and was always my favourite cast member. He's kept busy throughout the years, but unfortunately never achieved the fame and acclaim that his costars did.
This is one of the funniest things ever recorded.
Can we please somehow get back to THIS? M… A… G… A…!
I went to a fight one time and a hockey game broke out!!!
Pepsi et Joe Louis. Lol
Lol, LMAO, Ha Ha
Like all good hockey fights…..that escalated quickly! Pepsi! What a jack ass….hahahaha
SCTV was so funny and never missed an episode as a kid.
That was awesome!
Hosers!
Why didn’t they give the Lafleur guy a wig?
I loved “Celebrity Blow Up” …. “they all blowed up REAL GOOD !!!”
I never realized Joe was taller than John.
SCTV – enormously influential in my young life, and yes, far superior to SNL, although, in fairness, two entirely different experiences – SCTV having time to write and craft amazing pieces, without the time pressure and back-stabbing of SNL.
Sort of like Canada vs the US.
(0:38) "Why don't push it down in some milk and mush it into your puss" LOL
in this skit, john candy looks thin by 2023 standards
God save the f%$#@#% Queen!
I can't believe I've never seen this one before!
Not even in the top 10 % of best SCTV skits.
I’m a lifelong Blackhawks fan. I must say that I couldn’t stand either one of them. BTW I’m referring to the real hockey players. I loved SCTV. Candy and Flaherty were brilliant
Loved John Candy but this skit is desperate.
As a senior, and a Canadian, the rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians was legendary. You would probably have to be in your sixties now, and Canadian to truly appreciate this.
Yank here as well. SNL was as good as SCTV for the first couple of years but in the long run SCTV was the best stuff on TV. So much talent. Still makes me laugh out loud.
I watched sctv as a kid. Love that show. Good to see some on here. Did snl steal a Game show skit, Half wits? It reminds me of snl doing celebrity jeopardy. Sctv had alex trebell and will Ferrell played alex trebek. Seems like it was the same skits
The algorithm threw a John Candy interview at me a few days ago and now I'm just discovering SCTV for the first time. Holy shit I've missed out.
If you didn't grow up in the 70's, you missed a great show. ❤
He reads the box, "Awww f#%k, It's in French."
Jeez! I watched SCTV all the time in the 80's and this is the first time I've seen this!
Yeah baby! This was Canada in the late 70s, two of the greatest Canadian comedians of all time, the Canadiens, the Maple Leafs, SCTV and a shitty breakfast cereal. The stuff of real Canadian history and great TV legend.
