Bob and Doug McKenzie in Kelly Clarkson – First Audition – American Idol

In the video Kelly Clarkson – First Audition – American Idol, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of odd Canadian family members who starred in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was featured on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most popular season when it streamed by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 1980s. Bob’s part is brought to life by comic Rick Moranis and the character Doug is performed by actor Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was created originally as fluff to both satisfy and makes jokes about dumb Canadian content rules, the brothers turned into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the States. The McKenzie brothers soon became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
