  1. imma keep it real, I didn't know the Family Guy song was based on LSOH… it's fucking fantastic.

the melody– particularly the hook (…"there's plastic… on the furniture…") gets me every time. it's so strangely beautiful, no matter how jokey or who sings it. I can't describe why i find it so touching.

  2. Wage-slavery with a mortgage, tying the knot of dependency structures bound up with monogamous marriage, private, property and the class ruled political State.

  3. To me, Audrey was so innocent and naive because she still had the mind of a child. There is a Greek version of Little Shop of Horrors from 2008, where this song is entitled "A Colourful Life" and Audrey mentions that she always used to draw when requested by her teacher at school to do so, a house with a red roof and pines and lawn and next to her a little man who just held her tightly without asking anything more. It seems to me that life has been so cruel to her, that as a consequence her mind is stuck in her childhood dreams…

  4. I'm here because of Seth Macfarlane's obsession with this movie. Mr Herbert's version is a little sweeter (if you can ignore the pedophilia). I've never seen Little Shop of Horrors, but I really think I should.

  5. I know Seymour's the greatest
    But I'm dating a semi-sadist
So I've got a black eye
And my arm's in a cast.
    Still, that Seymour's a cutie
Well, if not, he's got inner beauty
And I dream of a place
Where we could be together at last

    A matchbox of our own
A fence of real chain link,
A grill out on the patio
    Disposal in the sink
A washer and a dryer and an ironing machine
In a tract house that we share
    Somewhere that's green.

He rakes and trims the grass
He loves to mow and weed
    I cook like Betty Crocker
And I look like Donna Reed
    There's plastic on the furniture
To keep it neat and clean
    In the Pine-Sol scented air
    Somewhere that's green

    Between our frozen dinner
    And our bedtime, nine-fifteen
    We snuggle watchin' Lucy
On our big, enormous twelve-inch screen

    I'm his December Bride
    He's Father, he Knows Best
    Our kids watch Howdy Doody
As the sun sets in the west
A picture out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine
