In the video MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! ~ BOB AND DOUG McKENZIE | Twelve Days of Christmas (Reaction!!), Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of odd Canadian comedians who created “Great White North”, a improv which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s third season when it got sent to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 80’s. Bob’s part is created by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and the character Doug is acted by the comedian Dave Thomas. Which was developed originally as fluff to both fulfill and make fun of silly Canadian content statutes, the pair grew up to be a pop culture success in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie brothers later became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Btw a toque here in Canada is what Americans boringly call a winter hat. Plus, a hoser is like calling someone a loser or a rube, originating from someone on the losing hockey team saddled with the task of freshening the hockey rink by spraying it with water.

Calling someone a hoser is like calling them a loser. When a hockey game was over the task of hosing down the ice with water to prepare it for using again would be handled by whichever team just lost the game. It is a Canadian thing. The guys playing Bob and Doug are both Canadian actors. Bob and Doug were characters from a recurring skit on a show from the 1980s called SCTV, which was a comedy sketch show. Bob and Doug were very popular characters, and they even had a movie out called Strange Brew. Rick Moranis played Bob, and Dave Thomas played Doug. I believe the album that this is from came out sometime between when the characters started getting pretty popular and when they came out with the movie. Another song off the album was actually put out as a single. It was called Take Off, and featured Geddy Lee from Rush. (More Canadians.) “Take off” is kind of a way to say “F*#% off” without actually swearing, and was another of their well known sayings. And a companion to calling someone hoser would be calling them hosehead.
A hoser is a guy or girl who sprays water over the ice surface on an ice rink using a hose. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas when all the sales are on in the stores. A toque is a nit cap.
