10 Lbs Garlic. I would marry instantly.
Classic Canadain Christmas music
The "five golden rings of kobasa" will ALWAYS be iconic!
I love this Ukrainian version of the 11/ (12) days of Christmas. I first heard the lyrics when my sister started to sing them with mu Mom. Thank-you Metro's. It is a fav song of mine and reminds me of my Ukrainian Heritage.
Everybody’s баба made the best педоге
God bless Australian Ukrainians!!!!
Biggar, Sask. here
The 11 gifts Metro received from his Mrs. are: (11) pails of borshch, (10) pounds chasnyk [garlic], (9) months pregnant, (8) ate all my suppers, (7) four by two shleps [schleps, or shlabs/slabs], (6) overalls, (5) golden rings of “koobasa" [kovbasa = sausage], (4) “holubchi” [holubtsi = cabbage rolls], (3) rubber boots, (2) pyrohy [pierogi], and (1) bowl of sour cream.
The above is from the paper "Ukrainian Canadian Folk Music" by R. B. Klymasz, which is included in the book "Visible Symbols: Cultural Expression Among Canada's Ukrainians" (edited by M. R. Lupul, published by Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta, 1984). I have posted an addition to wiki page “The Twelve Days of Christmas (song)", in section 4 - ‘Parodies and other versions', for brief background info of the song, Metro (Les Pavelick), and his co-writer Neil Headrick.
I am a Chinese Canadian, a onetime Anglican, first heard of this song likely during 1975 Christmas, one year after I landed in Edmonton from Hong Kong. This song received a lot of radio play back then. I just love Metro’s humour in it, without really insulting anybody, except laughing at himself, as most good comedians do. The late Metro appeared to have a very kind heart. Merry Christmas everybody!
11 days to go, 2021!
So what I’m getting from these comments is that we’re all from Saskatchewan
