In the video My cameo appearance on SCTV, 1982, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian comedians who are responsible for “Great White North”, a program which was introduced on SCTV for the show’s third season when it was broadcast on CBC Television in the 1980s. Bob is acted by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is acted by comic Dave Thomas. Despite born originally as a sketch to both please and mock stupid Canadian content demands, the siblings became a pop culture success in both Canada and the United States. The brothers went on to become the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
At age 13, I snuck into the crowd of Extras gathered at the old Golden Mile Plaza in Toronto where SCTV was making “The Towering Inferno” episode for their Friday night show on NBC in the USA and CBC in Canada that Aired on December 10, 1982.
I’m the kid on the right jumping when the reactor is about to shoot off the top of the building as the firefighters pull back on the rope…
