Bob and Doug McKenzie in New Wave Shmenge
In the video New Wave Shmenge, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of hysterical Canadian siblings who hosted “Great White North”, a show which was televised on second city television for the show’s third season when it was featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in in the early 80s. Bob McKenzie is performed by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is performed by Dave Thomas. Despite made originally as an idea to both follow guidelines and laugh at annoying Canadian content laws, the duo transformed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the States. The pair soon became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
This is the last appearance of the Shmenge brothers on SCTV. From SCTV’s 6th (Cinemax) season and, as of yet, unavailable on DVD.
As always, as soon as the 6th season of SCTV is announced for release on DVD this video is as good as gone!
