Bob and Doug McKenzie in Origins of SCTV

In the video Origins of SCTV, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of fictional Canadian comedians who hosted “Great White North”, a improv which was aired on second city television for the show’s third season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 80’s. Bob is created by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is brought to life by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was developed originally as fluff to both satisfy and laugh about silly Canadian content legislation, the characters transformed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and America. The pair soon became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
