We are not the butt of the jokes we love to throw ourselves into the fun, we don't care because our culture is one of 'quiet pride, with humility and funny'. The world is really gullible and we have fun exploiting it all very politely. Canadians understand and get the joke, others not so much.

You should know that many of the jokes about Canada are written by Canadians that are working for US shows, e.g. South Park and The Simpsons.
Most of the jokes about Canada in shows like the Simpsons aren't about Canada.They may sound that way at first hearing, but give them a second and you'll realize that they are mostly jokes about Americans ignorance of Canada or their belief in stereotypes. There are quite a lot of Canadian writers working these shows, and although they go uncredited there is a tradition in the comedy word of hiring friends from the comedy circuit who will come in to "punch up" scripts, literally just sitting around riffing on jokes or ideas already in the script. With a lot of Canadian stand ups working in LA especially, there are often Canadians who will slip references in – either to make them more accurate, or as is often the case, to make them more ridiculous to make the American characters more ignorant.
Personally I think the best referencing of Canadians was on "Newsradio" – a great show starring Dave Foley from kids in the hall. An American sitcom, Dave's background was given as having come from Wisconsin. In a later episode his colleagues discover that he was actually Canadian – they treat the news with sympathy, almost as if it was a disability or reason for shame. – The irony was that while a lot of people knew Dave was Canadian in real life, one of the shows main protagonists was Phil Hartman, who was also Canadian but US audiences weren't aware of it.
