You need to watch the giants of Polka - the Happy Wanderers who are Stan and Josh (Yosh) Shmenge. John Candy plays the Clarinet and Eugene Levy plays Accordion. They're from fictional Luitonia, which is on the dark side of the Balkans.
You mentioned a reunion.. there actually has been an SCTV special already filmed but was apparently not released due to Covid.. I'm not sure when the release date is - it's been a few years now since it was completed but never aired.
Ahh love the SCTV....
Grew up watching SCTV and it holds up well.
Reach for the Top still exists locally, provincially and nationally, just not on TV for a long time. https://youtube.com/@ReachForTheTop?si=aozR_Kfm09ZY6tKW
Classic. Great acting by all. They are much beloved in Canada!!
Reach For The Top, definitely. They were the age group who would have watched the show.
You need to watch the Movie Canadian Bacon
I am not sure if you are aware of the big picture with SCTV. the show is run as if it was a network in the fictitious town of Melonville. Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty) is the President and owner. Guy frequently appeared on the network to introduce shows, to make announcements, or to apologize for previous programming blunders. Behind the scenes, Guy was ever on the lookout for cheap, popular programming, and he had no qualms about running shows that pandered to the audience, or were low-quality knockoffs of other, more popular TV series.
HI Mert - I would love for to watch more of Rick Mercer. As part of the "Mercer Report" he had a lot of great videos on places he would visit like the RCMP Training Camp, The Royal Canadian Mint (where they make our money), a training school for truckers...they are so good! Here's the one when he visited the RCMP - you love it!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYT4NLauvKg
Pretty clear where SNL got their idea from.
