Bob and Doug McKenzie in Reaction To SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy
In the video Reaction To SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of imaginaryfunny Canadian actors who are responsible for “Great White North”, a show which was included on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it braodcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob’s part is acted by comic Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is created by actor Dave Thomas. It was developed originally as an idea to both please and mock non sensical Canadian content policies, the pair turned into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the US. The two later became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Reaction To SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy Classic Canadian TV Comedy
This is my reaction to SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy Classic Canadian TV Comedy
In this video I react to more Canadian comedy from the classic Canadian TV sketch show SCTV (Second City Television) and it’s Pippi Longstocking parody Pepi Longsocks featuring the comedic genius John Candy. John Candy played the role with great comedic value and this also featured fellow SCTV actors like Rick Moranis and Eugene Levy. SCTV launched the careers of other great Canadian comedians like Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas.

My family and I looked forward to SCTV every week here in Canada. Required viewing.
Great skit. The character he plays on SCTV's "Days of the week" is pretty awesome too. That one's split into multiple episodes since it's a parody of a soap opera.
You need to increase the sound of the videos that you are showing because they need to be at the same sound level as you. If I increase volume to hear what is been said, then you come in far to loud !
Watch perry Como, what's the hap babe, perini peroso, liberace and Elton John. I could go on an on. It's nice to see a non Canadian enjoy pipi long socks (one of my favs.)
You are right. That sketch was done to perfection, down to the unmatched dubbing.i think this sketch should be in a Canadian time capsul. RIP John. You were the best.
Oh and watch half wits too!
Apparently the audio before the dub was just the cast swearing like sailors. I always find myself trying to lip read the original dialogue.
he was a funny guy ,, seen Uncle Buck , that was so funny ,, but he made so many other great movies ,,he is dearly missed ,, –
Can't forget Martin Short and, Andrea Martin as Edith Prickly. I mean.
Pipi Longstocking was played regularly for a while on t.v. So, watching this parody was out of this world funny. I'm glad I remember watching the first ever SCTV shows. I think Eugene levy was funny too. Schmenge Brothers. I never laughed so hard .
So many favorites with John Candy and SCTV, but the Schmengies Christmas was hilarious. I also loved him as Divine!
Can't wait to see Ryan Reynolds bio pic on Candy. Have not heard much more about it recently.
If you are watching John Candy things, he is a main character in a movie called Canadian Bacon. It is a really funny movie.
A couple of my favourite SCTV skits were the 'Perry Como: Still Alive' and any of the Shmenges skits. Also, the most relevant skit they did was the parody of Russian TV. 'CCCP1'. It reminds me so much of Solovyov or Skabeeva or the rest of the Russian propoganda clowns. I also liked the movie 'Cool Runnings', in which he coached the Jamaican bobsled team.
Rather than just watch segments of the episodes of SCTV, you would be better suited watching entire episodes of SCTV. Only then would you really be able to understand the concept of a segment like this one. SCTV is a low-budget TV station, with a host of characters, each of whom performs in two or three or four segments of each episode.
His three best comedy movies were, Summer Rental, The Great Out Doors, and Planes, Trains, and automobiles
if you can read lips, you will get how filthy the language is in the dubbing.
John Candy is a Canadian treasure that was lost too soon
RIP John a true Canadian legend
Canuck here. Back in the early 80s when this was on, there was no youtube, no DVD rentals, even VHS tape rentals were new on the scene (you had to put down a $700 deposit to rent the machine in my home town, and nobody had them at home yet). So you watched what was on TV, or you watched nothing. Pipi Lonstocking was a cildhood staple at the time for elementary school students – the book in the library, and at the end of the year they would rent a 16mm film and play it in the auditorium for the students. So seeing this on SCTV was so on point, so in perfect context, and so hilarious it's hard to understand today how hard this hit at the time, the actual humour and production values notwithstanding. Glad to see it still has some chops decades later. "Look father, I am a potato!" LOL
Cooking With LaRue. One of my favourites.
