Reaction To SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy Classic Canadian TV Comedy
This is my reaction to SCTV (Pepi Longsocks) John Candy Classic Canadian TV Comedy
In this video I react to more Canadian comedy from the classic Canadian TV sketch show SCTV (Second City Television) and it’s Pippi Longstocking parody Pepi Longsocks featuring the comedic genius John Candy. John Candy played the role with great comedic value and this also featured fellow SCTV actors like Rick Moranis and Eugene Levy. SCTV launched the careers of other great Canadian comedians like Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas.

Can't wait to see Ryan Reynolds bio pic on Candy. Have not heard much more about it recently.
Cooking With LaRue. One of my favourites.
Canuck here. Back in the early 80s when this was on, there was no youtube, no DVD rentals, even VHS tape rentals were new on the scene (you had to put down a $700 deposit to rent the machine in my home town, and nobody had them at home yet). So you watched what was on TV, or you watched nothing. Pipi Lonstocking was a cildhood staple at the time for elementary school students - the book in the library, and at the end of the year they would rent a 16mm film and play it in the auditorium for the students. So seeing this on SCTV was so on point, so in perfect context, and so hilarious it's hard to understand today how hard this hit at the time, the actual humour and production values notwithstanding. Glad to see it still has some chops decades later. "Look father, I am a potato!" LOL
RIP John a true Canadian legend
John Candy is a Canadian treasure that was lost too soon
if you can read lips, you will get how filthy the language is in the dubbing.
His three best comedy movies were, Summer Rental, The Great Out Doors, and Planes, Trains, and automobiles
Rather than just watch segments of the episodes of SCTV, you would be better suited watching entire episodes of SCTV. Only then would you really be able to understand the concept of a segment like this one. SCTV is a low-budget TV station, with a host of characters, each of whom performs in two or three or four segments of each episode.
A couple of my favourite SCTV skits were the 'Perry Como: Still Alive' and any of the Shmenges skits. Also, the most relevant skit they did was the parody of Russian TV. 'CCCP1'. It reminds me so much of Solovyov or Skabeeva or the rest of the Russian propoganda clowns. I also liked the movie 'Cool Runnings', in which he coached the Jamaican bobsled team.
If you are watching John Candy things, he is a main character in a movie called Canadian Bacon. It is a really funny movie.
