Pre-teen World interviews Rough Trade.

This is an SCTV clip from the early 80’s. Rough Trade had a major hit with the song “Highschool Confidential” at the time, and here they are being interviewed by the kids on Pre-teen World.

I love the part where Eugene Levy can barely hold in his laughter, enjoying the stupidity of it all with John Candy. Amazing performances all around by all cast.

Note this is pre-MuchMusic, pre-MTV.

  1. The sheer talent on that stage in this skit, including the band, was quite something. I wish I'd seen this episode. The Fishin' Musician did turn me on to the Tubes though. (A Tubes fan will see what I did there.) SCTV was a great show.

  2. Too bad this doesn't have the RT song. It's an actual recorded performance and not lipsynced to the album track — rare to see on TV in the early '80s. You can ever see the setlist/lyrics/chord changes the keyboardist wrote on a piece of paper and taped to the MiniMoog (and all of the equipment brands are prominent). You don't see this kind of stuff in live television performances anymore.

  3. @BeeRich33 – Decent.

My favourite part is just after 1:40 when Eugene Levy quickly moves his head away for fear of totally cracking up, and John Candy is also barely holding in the laughter at the absurdity of the whole thing.

I don't have the follow-up video at this time.
