In the video SCTV | 20 DEPRESSING HITS BY CONNIE FRANKLIN ad, 1977, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of odd Canadian brothers who are responsible for “Great White North”, a improv which was shown on SCTV – second city television for the show’s third season when it moved to CBC Television in the 1980s. Bob McKenzie is played by comic Rick Moranis and the character Doug is brought to life by comic Dave Thomas. It was developed originally as an idea to both fulfill and laugh about annoying Canadian content statutes, the characters transformed into a pop culture success in both Canada and the States. The brothers soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
