Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – 3D House of Beef
In the video SCTV – 3D House of Beef, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of hilarious Canadian siblings who were featured in “Great White North”, a show which was broadcast on second city television for the show’s third season when it was broadcast on CBC Television in the year 1980. Bob McKenzie is performed by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is performed by Dave Thomas. The bit was born originally as an idea to both follow guidelines and laugh about annoying Canadian content guidelines, the pair turned into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the States. The pair later became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
The only place in town with 3D entertainment and an excellent cut of beef.

thank god i bought my count floyd 3d glasses for uh..i dunno, 20 bucks…yeh, 30 bucks.
When I watched this ( and never missed it) I couldn't wait for Count Floyd.
This bit would have been perfect to showcase The 5 Neat Guys.
I've eaten there. The prime rib was to die for. Bruno's wine knowledge blew us all away.
That's DOCTOR Tongue to you sir. I didn't go through 12 years of medical school to be called Mister Tongue!
Any ten-minute "Dr. Tongue and Bruno" sketch was funnier than 90% of the movies John Candy made. They had a real Abbott and Costello thing going.
Count Floyd's accent keeps slipping!
The Polyesters wear leather.
I love Bruno!!
The most remarkable thing about this, watching it so many decades later, is the pacing and length of the bits. They weren't afraid of taking their time and letting a joke build.
When I was a kid this movie scared the shit out of me. I slept with my lamp on for a week.
Loved Doctor Tongue and especially Count Floyd!
There were great "local" comedy shows back then. SCTV in Chicago and a local comedian in Seattle had a sitcom too, his name escapes me
When in doubt, howl!
Objectively this is a very thin sketch. Imagine reviewing the typed script, circa 1982, after seeing a Bill Murray movie, about the time we all thought Bill Murray was funny. Your reaction would be like Milton Berle's to Joe Flaherty at the 1982 Emmy: "what the hell…"?
But so much weird energy is put into this that it wins you over. These were brilliant performers. The writing was a little uneven – hey, who gets even writing? – but when the writing lagged a little, the performances redeemed it.
Indeed, orders of magnitude better than SNL.
Johnny LaRue is a Canadian treasure.
In the 90's, there was a sludge metal band from Seattle called 3D House of Beef.
I love that they got their name from an SCTV sketch.
Oh my god…Joe Flaherty playing Count Floyd is so brilliant. His constant failure and then reliance on howling and hiding behind his cape – just amazing. I watched this as pre-teen and it absolutely shaped everything about what I wanted to do with comedy. Looking back – its Eugene Levy that I am just astounded by. Every character he created was so strong – and SO many of them.
I like they're remake of the the midnight cowboy.
Bewip bahwoo bewip bahwoo
Comedy GOLD!
know where we can find part 2?
Can’t be any worse than the Cheesecake Factory.
SCTV Trivia: Count Floyd is of course news anchor Floyd Robertson. He and his sidekick Earl Camembert are parodies of real-life Canadian news readers Lloyd Robertson and Earl Cameron
warms the cockles of my heart
Halloween Horror !!!!!
SCTV was my Friday night in the mid 80s!
I remember when John candy was shoving the beef at the camera and then grease from the meat visibly got on the camera
I so want to attend this fall's Monster Bash/Monster Con in Pittsburgh (not West Mifflin, heh-heh) to see Joe Flaherty (Count Floyd) in person. We shall see…
