Objectively this is a very thin sketch. Imagine reviewing the typed script, circa 1982, after seeing a Bill Murray movie, about the time we all thought Bill Murray was funny. Your reaction would be like Milton Berle's to Joe Flaherty at the 1982 Emmy: "what the hell..."?
But so much weird energy is put into this that it wins you over. These were brilliant performers. The writing was a little uneven - hey, who gets even writing? - but when the writing lagged a little, the performances redeemed it.
Indeed, orders of magnitude better than SNL.
I so want to attend this fall's Monster Bash/Monster Con in Pittsburgh (not West Mifflin, heh-heh) to see Joe Flaherty (Count Floyd) in person. We shall see...
I remember when John candy was shoving the beef at the camera and then grease from the meat visibly got on the camera
SCTV was my Friday night in the mid 80s!
Halloween Horror !!!!!
warms the cockles of my heart
SCTV Trivia: Count Floyd is of course news anchor Floyd Robertson. He and his sidekick Earl Camembert are parodies of real-life Canadian news readers Lloyd Robertson and Earl Cameron
Can’t be any worse than the Cheesecake Factory.
