Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV Battle of the PBS Stars – Mr. Rogers vs. Julia Child
In the video SCTV Battle of the PBS Stars – Mr. Rogers vs. Julia Child, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian brothers who are responsible for “Great White North”, a skit which was included on second city television for the show’s most popular season when it was aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. Bob’s part is played by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is performed by actor Dave Thomas. The sketch was made originally as filler to both follow guidelines and make fun of annoying Canadian content laws, the pair became a pop culture hit in both Canada and across the border. The brothers went on to become the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Mr. Rogers kicking ass and taking names.
…
John Candy as Julia Child. Martin Short as Mr. Rogers. Eugene Levy as Howard Cosell.

CAN'T STOP LAUGHING – LOOK AT THOSE SKINNY LEGS
King Friday has a long history of interfering in boxing matches. He's actually banned from Madison Square Garden.
Martin Short is brilliant
What a great skit!
Eugene Levy. Just gold. "But THAAERRRRE!!!". Howard Cosell would be dam proud.
Stay gold.
Fun fact, John Candy's height (6'2") is actually the same that of the real Julia Child.
This was made during the war on drugs, and let me tell you something. We weren't winning.
Great comedy doesn’t need a laugh track!
This show was banned from PBS because of it's scares a lot of children
“Why isn’t Rogers being disqualified?!”
First time I saw this I almost died of a heart attack from laughing when they showed Mr. Rogers’ corner, with the king Friday puppet!!!
Mister Rogers – Winner
Julia Child – Losers
I just learned vis the SCTV FB group this was based on the Larry Homes vs Tex Cobb fight that made Cosell quit covering boxing.
When Mr Rogers gets into the ring and looks at the camera with that big grin I just lost it.
I watched this with my dad, just a few days before he passed away from lung cancer. The second he saw Mr. Rogers getting in the ring with that grin, he laughed so hard I thought he was going to die then and there.
OMG! So darn funny! Martin Short and John Candy are incredible. Of course, Eugene Levy rocks Howard Kossel.
One of the best TV bits ever
The Frugal Gourmet was the best TV cooking show of all time. You can't put Jeff and Julia in the same category, as they both did their own thing and were great at it. But the Frugal Gourmet I can watch for hours. I have around 80 Episodes of it burned to DVD.
Thanks for all the great comments! SCTV is probably my favorite television show of all time, and this is probably my favorite sketch. I was lucky enough to catch the old 30-minute Canadian episodes when I was in high school in the early 80s, before their stint on NBC. In school, everyone else was talking about Saturday Night Live but me and a select few friends were all about SCTV. It was like watching our own private show back then. So happy to see the entire cast make it to international stardom. They feel like old friends to me.
Hilarious
What a horrible HORRIBLE proposition.
Loved this show more than SNL.
Imagine this with Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers and Meryl Streep as Julia Child
I came here from the Mr. Rogers documentary. Holy crap, this is hilarious lol. Also, Mr. Rogers won that shit FAIR AND SQUARE.
I don't have to explain. You saw it.
Mr. Roger's cheated. He had help from King Friday. He should have been disqualified. Child's should have won.
Sctv was a hidden gem when it first came on. It had a very late night showing so a lot of people missed it. The make-up and actors portrayals were dead on. The skits were clever. Great childhood memory.
